Conservative Talk

"To preserve liberty, it is essential that the whole body of people always possess arms, and be taught alike, especially when young, how to use them."

No New Social Security Taxes

Published by Rod D. Martin January 9th, 2007 filed under Social Security, George W. Bush, Rod D. Martin, TheVanguard.Org

Comments

As we expected at TheVanguard.Org, those who have been trumpeting the impending deal between the Bush Administration and Congressional Democrats for a high tax Social Security “fix” have proven to be dead wrong.

Needless to say, were the President to support such a thing, we would fight it.  But he isn’t.  And we’d be very surprised indeed if he did.

And that being said:  conservatives are wise to be vigilant (as noted today, we were on the Harriet Miers debacle not long ago).  But if they spent have the time attacking the real enemy they spend trying to gouge out the eyes of their friends, they’d have filibuster-proof majorities for the next several centuries.

America as the Hope of Christian Culture

Published by Rod D. Martin January 9th, 2007 filed under Christian Activism, Culture, Christianity, War on Terror, Rod D. Martin, Conservatism, TheVanguard.Org

Comments

My friend Andrew Sandlin, who is very interested in matters of faith and culture, recently sent out a letter to some of his supporters regarding his ministry and his plans for its future.  A part of that letter speaks better to the proper Christian view of America than most anything I’ve seen, and I thought it would be good to reproduce that section here, after the jump.

ACLU Sues Police for Detaining Illegals

Published by Rod D. Martin January 9th, 2007 filed under Border Security, ACLU, Immigration, Culture War, Rod D. Martin, Democrats, TheVanguard.Org

Comments

And here’s another item from the Anti-Christian Leftist Union:  now they’re going after the Rhode Island State Police for (horrors!) enforcing the law on a bunch of illegal aliens.

There is no enemy of the United States, no attacker of decency, and now apparently no foreign invader the ACLU will not support.

TheVanguard.Org’s board member Alan Sears (who is also head of the Alliance Defense Fund) recently wrote an outstanding exposé of these Marxist zealots, The ACLU vs. America.  Everyone really ought to pick this up.  It’s easy to focus on the harm of groups like MoveOn, but the ACLU is rich, powerful, and very very old: its savvy knows no bounds.  And if Americans understood it as it really is, it would have all the cachet of the John Birch Society.

Isn’t it time?

My friend David Jeffers, who recently started blogging for us here at TheVanguard.Org, just posted another great item in his series on “Reviving the Republicans”.  You won’t want to miss it.

Don’t You Love…

…the difference in how the media handles Barack Obama’s cocaine use and how that handle the mere allegation (and best I can tell, virtually complete lack of evidence) of same in GWB?

If you were wondering about “media bias”, you need look no further.

Harriet Miers Departs

Published by Rod D. Martin January 9th, 2007 filed under Supreme Court, George W. Bush, Conservatism, Rod D. Martin, TheVanguard.Org

Comments

Playing catch-up a bit:  White House counsel Harriet Miers announced her departure last week.  By all counts she was a wonderful lady and an excellent lawyer for the President, and with the Bush-haters now in firm control of the the subpoena power on Capitol Hill, she made a good decision to go take her well-deserved rest now (the President made a good decision in replacing her as well, in picking Fred Fielding).

A little over a year ago, many conservatives had the unfortunate and unpleasant task of opposing the President’s nomination of Miers to the U.S. Supreme Court (indeed, our predecessor organization Vanguard PAC was the first national conservative group to oppose her).  We took no joy in this:  the President has been extremely faithful on judicial nominations, and certainly believed the best of Ms. Miers.  We simply had reason to differ.

But this was never personal.  Harriet Miers has been indispensable to the President in a time of global war, and has served her country with distinction.  She will be missed, and we all wish her every possible reward for all she’s done for America.
