THIS WEEK - My column on “Evangelicals at the Crossroads”, an examination of Christians’ place in American life and necessary relationship (in both directions) with the Republican Party. Bottom line: turn out on Tuesday or lose more than you’re prepared to pay. Plus: an Action Alert on the PBA ban; Newt Gingrich and Ann Coulter give pre-election analysis; Pat Poole on the large Muslim contributions to help Dems; the word on Justice Stevens’ health; Marvin Olasky’s look at the cost of abandoning our promises in Iraq (and other places past); and Jack Wheeler on the hope for Islam represented by Indonesia and the danger to us all from the Chinese infiltration and soon-to-be takeover of Siberia.

Nor, as evangelicals’ long history building this nation illustrates so well, are they some new, “scary” Iran-like force in our politics. They are the backbone of America, and always have been. And without them, the Republican Party is toast.
But without the Republican Party, they’re toast too.

Think the efforts of certain Latino radicals to reabsorb the American Southwest into Mexico are scary? Well check out what China and its state-sponsored illegal immigrants into Siberia are doing. Russia is imploding, and the Chinese are ready.
A must-read.

John Kerry now says he didn’t mean to insult the troops, but his record puts the lie to his excuse of the day. The AP reports today that his recent “botched joke” directly tracks language he used in 1972 when running for Congress during the Vietnam War.
What can we say? If Republicans stay home on Tuesday, this guy will be one of the leaders of the Senate. ‘Nuff said.
Kerry: “Let Me Entertain You”

According to a former Kerry 2004 presidential campaign staffer who has worked with the Kerry Senate offices to coordinate his appearances on behalf of Democrat candidates this year, Sen. John Kerry’s prepared remarks last Monday included a slightly more detailed joke about being stuck in Iraq.
“The reason they had the joke in there was because of the crowd,” the staffer says. “We’d told the office that there would be lots of MoveOn.org types, lots of young people at the event, so they gave him material to play to what we consider to be the important base of the party for next week. Kerry was playing to the crowd, giving them what the Democrats think they want to hear.”
Marvin Olasky: Hungary, Iraq & Shredding Machines

Iraqis have endured oppression for decades. They now face the prospect of more tyranny unless the United States stays the course (and even if we do, success is likely to be fleeting). Many Americans are tired of hearing about Iraq, but are we ready to insert our earplugs when those who have trusted in us plead for help as terrorists brutally attack them?
We have been elsewhere, with horrific results.
