Conservative Talk

"We have gone so far that it almost seems a rule, originally designed to guard against violation of the Constitution, has become an aggressive campaign against religion itself. And isn't that the very thing we set out to guard against -- domination of religion by the state? "

-- Ronald Reagan

Violence continues to drop dramatically in Iraq as the Bush-McCain Surge continues to work its magic, and as Iraqi civilians continue to join their government in eliminating the foreign al Qaeda terrorists who’ve made their country hell.

Which just makes it all the sadder that we remain forcibly subjected to a daily diet of “the war is lost” propaganda over here.

From that canard to the disgraceful slander that “Iraqis aren’t doing enough for themselves” to the painfully ludicrous (but still occasionally (continue reading post »)

Last week, the NAACP held its annual convention in Detroit and, true to form, chairman Julian Bond in his opening remarks uttered something breathtakingly asinine. He accused Uncle Sam of “lynching” blacks in New Orleans by essentially failing to find a magic wand to wave over the city and make its post-Katrina ills go away.

Truth be told, Katrina merely highlighted New Orleans’ pre-existing problems — namely (continue reading post »)

Over the past several weeks, tens of thousands of you have helped us fax, call and write Congress to stop the Pelosi-Murtha Preemptive Surrender Bill.

Well, yesterday you won.  And so did America.

In the face of all your opposition, Democrats blinked, selling out their MoveOn buddies.  Senate and House leaders caved to reality, pulled Pelosi’s “Preemptive Surrender Bill”, and (continue reading post »)

SENSE OF UMMAH
The Trouble With Islam
Sadly, mainstream Muslim teaching accepts and promotes violence.

BY TAWFIK HAMID
Tuesday, April 3, 2007 12:01 a.m.

Not many years ago the brilliant Orientalist, Bernard Lewis, published a short history of the Islamic world’s decline, entitled “What Went Wrong?” Astonishingly, there was, among many Western “progressives,” a vocal dislike for the title. It is a false premise, these critics protested. They ignored Mr. Lewis’s implicit statement that things have been, or could be, right.

But indeed, there is much that is clearly wrong with the Islamic world. (continue reading post »)
