Conservative Talk

"Of all the dispositions which lead to political prosperity, Religion and morality are indispensable supports. In vain would that man claim the tribute of Patriotism, who would labor to subvert these great Pillars of human happiness.... The mere Politician, equally with the pious man, ought to respect and cherish them."

Giuliani Out: An Analysis From His Own Camp

Published by Rod D. Martin January 30th, 2008 filed under Rudy Giuliani, RINOs, Election 2008, Rod D. Martin, TheVanguard.Org

Paul Weyrich is one of the creators of the modern conservative movement, and remains one of the most influential people in the Republican Party and in Washington, D.C. It is very dangerous to trifle with him: his prophesies are frequently self-fulfilling.

A very interesting article from the New York Times regarding conservatives’ efforts to find an acceptable Presidential nominee, with a central focus on the Council for National Policy (full disclosure: I’m a member of CNP’s Board of Governors). A most interesting read.

Hugh Hewitt states:

The post-mortems are accumulating, but I think the obvious has to be stated: John McCain and his colleagues in the Gang of 14 cost the GOP its Senate majority, plus any chance of reshaping the judiciary from here on in. They must be held responsible.

With the zeal of converts, Republican leaders thought they’d found the magic bullet. They could ignore the big, visionary stuff that characterized Reagan-era campaigns — and Bush’s presidential runs too — because they could turn out the vote. Yea, on our conference calls, the leadership regaled us with the (genuinely amazing) number of person-to-person contacts they were generating — far more, in fact, than 2004 — and how all of this was going to save the day, or most of it anyway.

How do you tell whether the left or the right is unhappier with John McCain’s deal? To hear T.A. Frank tell it at the New Republic, it’s one of the biggest wins ever for Bush, Frist, and Republicans: (continue reading post »)
